  • PooPrints has partnered with Ancestry® to offer an exciting new upgrade: Ancestry’s Know Your Pet DNA Test. With a simple one-click upgrade, you can unlock breed, trait, and health insights about your dog using the same DNA sample submitted for PooPrints registration. No new swab is needed, and the process is seamless. After your swab is processed by PooPrints, we’ll securely prep and send it to Ancestry, where their scientists will analyze your dog’s DNA and deliver results directly to you.

  • No. Breed and health results from Ancestry are not shared with your property and are not stored in your PooPrints account. These insights are only visible in the Ancestry account created after you upgrade. PooPrints nor your PooPrints property admin will see your dog’s breed or health info.

  • Not at all. Your property will continue using PooPrints for pet waste management the same way as before. This Ancestry upgrade is an optional enhancement for you as a pet owner.

  • You can upgrade your PooPrints DNA test with one of two options from Ancestry’s Know Your Pet DNA Test: 

    • Ancestry Breed 
      Get a detailed breed breakdown, physical and behavioral trait reports, and even DNA matches with your dog’s relatives in Ancestry’s growing database. 

    • Ancestry Breed + Health 
      Includes everything in the Breed package plus screening for 200+ genetic health conditions and a free 30-day membership to dive deeper into your dog’s health and heritage. 

    No new swab is needed! Once you upgrade, we’ll take care of the rest. Your dog’s sample is securely prepped and sent to Ancestry's trusted lab for analysis. 

  • We're currently rolling out this option in a phased approach. We will email you when you’re eligible to upgrade with all the details. If you’re interested in upgrading now, please contact our team at residents@pooprints.com

  • PooPrints processes all swabs within 10 business days. Once your sample is processed and you activate your upgrade kit, it will be shipped to Ancestry within one week. From there, Ancestry will provide updates on your dog’s sample progress and estimated timeline.

  • If your dog's DNA sample was never completed with PooPrints, you won’t be able to upgrade until that step is completed. Our team will contact you at residents@pooprints.com to resolve this issue.

  • Send out an announcement notifying residents that waste is officially being tested

  • Find unscooped waste pile

  • Grab a PooPrints Waste Kit

  • Register sample details via the PooPrints app

  • Collect waste sample using instructions in kit

  • Seal kit and drop it in the mail

  • Use a PooPrints waste bag to pick up the remainder of the pile you sampled

Ancestry FAQ

You’ll get an email when waste samples have been analyzed. Match results will contain the resident’s name, dog name, and a DNA Match Certificate certified by our lab. Pass the information along to the resident as evidence of the Match.
